Hello everyone! This is a friendly reminder that any of these fun places we may visit, we are a guest at. Please treat both businesses and trails with the utmost respect. We here at Hidden San Diego follow the 'Leave no Trace' mantra, meaning whatever you bring with you comes back with you. If you see trash on a trail, please do your part to help remove it. Remember, we are not picking up trash from another person but instead cleaning up for Mother Nature. Happy adventures!

CHECK OUT OUR GUIDE ON ALL THE HIDDEN GEMS ON PALOMAR MOUNTAIN FOR AN AMAZING DAY TRIP!

Fry Creek Campground sits in the heart of Cleveland National Forest, located down the road from the Palomar Observatory. The fresh, clean air of the campground provides a refreshing getaway for visitors from San Diego and Los Angeles.

Fry Creek Campground & TrailThe observatory, atop Palomar Mountain, boasts five high-tech telescopes, among them, the massive 200-inch Hale Telescope, was the world's largest effective telescope for about 45 years. The observatory is owned by the California Institute of Technology and astronomical research includes near-Earth asteroids and the study of distant galaxies.

Personal Experience: Just like every inch of Palomar Mountain, this campsite was beautiful, lush and green!  There is a loop trail that takes you around the perimeter of the campsite which we checked out.  It had truly stunning landscape and what appears to be seasonal waterfalls (will be coming back in winter to confirm).

I saw multiple trailheads to begin the hike.  There was a trailhead right above our campsite, and we were site #10. My only gripe with our experience were all the flies!!  They were everywhere and an extreme nuisance. I felt especially bad for my pup! I am pretty sure they are a seasonal issue though, because I've camped here once in late November and we did not witness any flies.

I love that the campsite is dog-friendly.  Aside from one glamping experience, this was my dog's first *real* camping trip!  And trip she did!  She kept me up pretty much the entire night with moving around, whimpering and growling at God knows what.  I wonder what she heard out there!

We decided to check out the trail at the campsite.  It was beautiful but soooo many flies!!

Sage was NOT feeling the flies.  You can see it on her face.
